Hi, I'm Jackie Loughlin

Every January, we’re bombarded with the same message: “New Year, New Me.” The pressure to reinvent ourselves often feels overwhelming and disconnected—especially when winter’s chill urges us to slow down and reflect.

But what if there’s a better way? A way that aligns with nature’s cycles, honors your energy, and leads to sustainable growth? A way to align your intentions with nature’s cycles for a more harmonious way of living.

The truth is, the modern calendar doesn’t align with how humans are naturally wired. Historically, the new year began at the end of March, marked by the spring equinox—a time of balance, renewal, and growth. Understanding this shift can transform how you approach setting intentions and goals, freeing you from the grind of arbitrary resolutions and helping you align your intentions with nature’s cycles.

The Origins of the New Year

Let’s dig into history. The Roman calendar originally began in March, which makes sense when you consider its alignment with nature. The first month of the year was a celebration of new life as flowers bloomed, and days grew longer.

Even the word “December” offers a clue. Derived from decem, meaning “ten,” December was once the 10th month. January and February weren’t about massive changes but rather transitions—times to rest, reflect, and prepare for growth.

So why do we now feel the need to bloom in the depths of winter? Modern society has shifted away from these natural rhythms, but we can reclaim this wisdom and live more intentionally.

A Year Aligned with Nature’s Cycles

Here’s how you can align your year with the seasons, focusing on how you want to feel rather than forcing a reinvention.

Winter: Rest, Reflect, and Recalibrate

  • December: A time to delete, declutter, and decompress. Let go of what no longer serves you and create space for the new.
  • January: Rest and recalibrate. Embrace stillness and set gentle intentions based on how you want to feel. Align your intentions with nature’s cycles during this reflective period.
  • February: Plant seeds. Begin nurturing small habits or ideas that align with your values.

Spring: Renewal and Growth

  • March: Spring into action. Start fresh with bold steps and renewed energy.
  • April: Cultivate growth. Focus on consistency and patience as you nurture your goals.
  • May: Embrace abundance. Step into opportunities and deepen connections with yourself and others.

Summer: Thrive and Celebrate

  • June: Thrive and shine. Celebrate your progress and live fully in the energy of summer.
  • July: Recharge and reflect. Pause to assess what’s working and make adjustments.
  • August: Refine and realign. Fine-tune your intentions and prepare for the harvest.

Autumn: Harvest and Let Go

  • September: Harvest and celebrate. Reap the rewards of your hard work and express gratitude.
  • October: Let go and prepare. Release what’s no longer aligned and begin simplifying your commitments.
  • November: Reflect and restore. Heal and recharge as the year winds down.

The Power of Seasonal Intentions

Instead of setting rigid goals for the entire year, try choosing a word or feeling for each season. This approach allows you to flow with life rather than forcing progress:

  • In winter, you might choose “peace” or “restoration.”
  • In spring, “growth” or “renewal.”
  • In summer, “joy” or “celebration.”
  • In autumn, “gratitude” or “release.”

This cyclical approach helps you honor where you are and what you need at each phase of the year.

Forget Resolutions—Align with Your Soul

When you sync your intentions with nature, you free yourself from the pressure to constantly perform. Instead, you create space to grow, heal, and thrive in alignment with your natural rhythms.

So, let go of the “New Year, New Me” mindset. You don’t need a new you—you need a more aligned you.

Take the First Step

How do you want to feel this season? What small, imperfect step can you take today to nurture that feeling? Start there, and let the rest unfold naturally. As always if this resonates with you feel free to book a clarity call with me to attune to yourself for the new year.
